Gateway to Opportunity: Improving Parental Employment and Family Well-Being Outcomes

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Family Assistance (OFA), hosted the Gateway to Opportunity: Improving Parental Employment and Family Well-Being Outcomes national TANF convening on September 1 – September 3, 2015 at the Renaissance Washington D.C. Downtown Hotel. The convening brought together TANF program administrators and national experts to promote dialogue around topics such as job-driven and career pathways training, TANF-WIOA coordination, client assessment and case management strengthening, the role of executive skills in employment outcomes, and two-generation approaches to family economic security. Gateway to Opportunity: Improving Parental Employment and Family Well-Being Outcomes provided attendees with opportunities to engage with their peers and experts from the field, to discuss best practices and the latest research, to converse with federal commissioners and ACF staff, as well as to plan ways to improve TANF programming for low-income families in their communities.

The Administration for Children and Families, Office of Family Assistance (OFA) hosted the OFA Peer Exchange Workshop: Strengthening Collaboration between TANF and WIOA, on September 21-22, 2015 in Bethesda, Maryland. Since TANF is included as a required partner with the workforce one-stop system under the new Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), this workshop brought together teams from states across the country to develop a plan for strong TANF and WIOA collaboration.

Webcast Materials Available: Proposed Information Collection: Required Elements for Submission of the Unified or Combined State Plan and Plan Modifications Under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)

The purpose of this webcast is to provide an overview of the proposed information collection request for WIOA Unified and Combined State Plans. On August 6, 2015, the Departments of Labor, Education, Health and Human Services, Agriculture, and Housing and Urban Development published a Federal Register notice seeking public comment on the proposed planning requirements and related burden, as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA). This pre-recorded webcast was designed to provide information on this request and tips on how to make a good comment. Presenters discussed the contents of the PRA package, introduce the Information Collection Request (ICR), and note the WIOA requirements for state plans. This webcast also highlights the process for submitting comments on the ICR during the 60-day comment period.

Implementing WIOA: State Policy Choices to Assist Low-Income Working Families
