The Administration for Native Americans Western Region is hosting five pre-application trainings, a combination of in-person and virtual events:
Training 1 is in-person from April 2 to 3, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada;
Training 2 is in-person from April 16 to 17, 2024 (location announcement coming soon);
Training 3 is virtual from April 8 to 11, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET;
Training 4 is virtual from April 22 to 25, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET; and
Training 5 is virtual from April 29 to May 2, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET.
Registration for each training is open. While topics for both in-person and virtual training will be dependent on time constraints, each training will assist the application process for the NEW Notice of Funding Opportunities. Each training will also cover the new review criteria and how to address each in the application.
The 44th National Indian and Native American Employment and Training (NINAETC) for WIOA Section 166 and Public Law 102-477 will take place in Orlando, Florida from May 13 to 17, 2024. This conference is dedicated to promoting heritage and culture. There is a fee for registration.
The National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) is hosting their annual gathering to discuss American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) child advocacy issues. The conference will take place from April 7 to April 10, 2024, in Seattle, Washington with an option to join the general sessions virtually. NICWA develops and provides programming to attendees, creating a space where participants can learn about the latest developments and best practices from experts in the field and from one another. Participants represent a cross-section of fields and interests including child welfare, mental health, and juvenile justice service providers; legal professionals; students; advocates for children; and tribal, state, and federal leaders. There is a fee for registration.
Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month Observance Event

The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) hosted a Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month Event in February 2023 and featured a panel of youth engaged in violence prevention efforts in their communities. This recording includes the remarks from Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta and OVW Acting Director Allison Randall. The recording is accompanied by a transcript of the Associate Attorney General’s speech.
In the Oxford Handbook on Program Design and Implementation Evaluation, experts provide insight on how to incorporate evaluation approaches at each stage of a program’s life cycle and how it can lead to greater impact. Notable contributors of the handbook and experts will be joining Mathematica and the Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management for an event on January 25, 2024, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET at their Washington, D.C. location as well as online. Attendees will hear how program design and evaluation methods have evolved to meet changing needs and discuss real-world examples of how these approaches have been used at each stage to maximize the chances of a program’s success.
EMPath is hosting the Disrupting Poverty Conference: A Path Forward in Boston, Massachusetts from March 27-28, 2024. The two-day public conference will focus on a range of topics related to economic mobility, including affordable housing, early childhood, guaranteed income, and eliminating the racial wealth gap. This conference will feature keynotes from experts and collaborative breakout sessions for participants. There is a fee for registration.
The National Youth Employment Coalition (NYEC) will be hosting their annual forum in Atlanta, Georgia from March 4-6, 2024. The NYEC annual forum is a national conference that brings together youth leaders, practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders interested in advancing the lives of opportunity youth and young adults. Attendees will co-create a space for sharing best practices, innovative ideas, advocacy strategies, and practical solutions to common challenges. There is a fee for registration.
Urban Institute is hosting a discussion about the legacies of the deepest poverty in America and the mechanisms through which it persists. The discussion will explore the poorest places in the country – from Appalachia, the Cotton and Tobacco Belts, and South Texas – and examine the inequalities shaping people’s health, livelihoods, and upward social mobility. It will continue with a panel of experts on the importance of place and place-based solutions for supporting upward mobility from poverty. This event will take place on November 16, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. ET in Washington D.C., with the option to join virtually.
The National Association of Workforce Development Professionals will be hosting the Symposium from November 6 to November 8, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada with an option to attend virtually. The workshops will address critical issues faced by youth in today’s workforce by sharing innovative solutions and empowering strategies. There will be five different learning tracks for participants to choose from, including:
1. Priorities for Youth Workforce Development from DOL's Employment and Training Administration;
2. Technology and Digital Solutions;
3. Personal and Leadership Development for the Workforce Professional;
4. Career Counseling and Development; and
5. Telling the Story of Impactful and Innovative Youth Programs.
Climate change and climate-fueled extreme events like floods, wildfires, and heat waves are imposing significant financial costs on American households and families. Urban Institute is hosting an event in Washington D.C., with the option to join virtually, on September 29, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. EDT. This event will explore the causes and consequences of household financial stress attributable to climate extremes. It will feature a panel discussion with Natalie Grant, the Director of the Office of Human Services Emergency Preparedness, about the household financial burdens imposed by climate change and opportunities to which households, communities, and policymakers must prepare and respond.
