Engaging Diverse Partners to Prevent Dating Abuse

This presentation, created by Break the Cycle: Empowering Youth to End Domestic Violence, highlights the importance of a coordinated community response to prevent dating abuse. A coordinated community response is a system of networks, agencies, shelters, and human services agencies working together to intervene in abuse situations. It defines an abusive situation as “a pattern of abusive behaviors used to exert power and control over a dating partner.” Dating abuse impacts students of color and LGBT students at higher rates, and young people need different services than adults. The presentation encourages communities to implement referral networks, staff training, collaborative relationships, and preparation when dealing with teen dating abuse.
