Case Study: Washington State Implements Pilots to Promote Self-Sufficiency among Refugees with Low English Proficiency

In Washington State, two pilot projects aimed to connect LEP refugees with workforce development opportunities within WorkFirst, Washington’s TANF program. Specifically, the two pilots: provided more subsidized employment opportunities for LEP parents within the WorkFirst program, and launched skills training pilots within WorkFirst that targeted participants with lower levels of English proficiency. A September 19, 2013 webinar provides additional background on the collaboration, service delivery model, and English as a Second Language training.
