Bridging Refugee Youth & Children’s Services (BRYCS)

Cultural differences regarding child-rearing practices, discipline methods, appropriate adolescent behavior, and intergenerational expectations can be difficult barriers for refugees resettled in the United States to overcome. In an effort to help refugees and their children succeed in the U.S., Bridging Refugee Youth and Children’s Services (BRYCS) creates connections between and provides technical assistance to refugee service providers and public child welfare professionals. Supported by the Federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, BRYCS has responded to thousands of technical assistance requests from a variety of organizations including refugee resettlement programs, ethnic community based organizations, public child welfare agencies, public school systems, family strengthening programs, and youth services. In addition to these activities, BRYCS maintains a clearinghouse of more than 4,000 resources for professionals who encounter refugee and immigrant children and families in their work, as well as a promising practices database that identifies and documents innovative refugee-related programs from around the country.
