Policy Brief on Integrating SNAP E&T Into Career Pathway Systems

This U.S. Department of Labor policy brief reviews approaches to incorporate Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) services into career pathway programs at the state level. These approaches include selecting SNAP E&T partners already offering career pathway services to SNAP participants and helping the partners expand their reach, and collaborating with SNAP E&T partners in filling service delivery gaps. Integrating SNAP E&T services and participants into career pathways may strengthen SNAP E & T’s alignment with the workforce system, which is a priority under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
The National Association of Workforce Boards will hold its annual conference in Washington, D.C. from March 21 to March 24, 2020. The conference features issue sessions, industry roundtables, workshops, and intensive technical assistance sessions with representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor and other partner Federal agencies. This year’s event will also include discussions of best practices and strategies from participants of the association’s Leadership Academy, as well as plenary sessions covering Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) reauthorization.

Performance Reporting for WIOA Adult Priority Populations Desk Reference

This U.S. Department of Labor guide identifies reporting elements in the Participant Individual Record Layout (PIRL) that is required to implement the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Adult program. Under WIOA Adult fund regulations, American Job Centers must give priority to public assistance recipients or other low-income persons who are basic skills deficient. The resource guide offers illustrations of how to: accurately collect and report the various elements in the PIRL, categorize individuals receiving WIOA assistance into priority groups under program regulations, and indicate which services a participant receives.
This National Association of State Workforce Agencies report offers a compilation of fact sheets on workforce policies and programs for each of the 50 state workforce agencies. Each fact sheet compares labor force data and education levels for the respective state against national levels. This case statement highlights the American Job Center and its WIOA affiliates (called WorkSource) in the Pacific Mountain Workforce Region of Washington (PacMtn). In collaboration with state agencies and community partners, WorkSource offers three program tracks—work ready, work support, and education—to TANF customers based on their level of work readiness. Program staff also take a client-centered, integrated service delivery approach to address the needs of high-barrier customers.
