ACF West-Central Hub Family Stabilization Workshop

Record Description

The ACF West-Central Hub Family Stabilization Workshop, held September 26 and 27, 2001, in Denver, CO, had three primary themes: Responsible Fatherhood, Faith-based and Community Initiatives, and Marriage and Family Stabilization. The Administration for Children and Families West-Central Hub includes Region VI (New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas) and Region VIII (Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming). The objectives of the workshop were to introduce participants to successful programs in the three key areas, to encourage networking, and to serve vulnerable children and families by focusing on making lasting connections. Speakers from various programs and perspectives  shared promising practices, challenges, and lessons learned in the area of family stabilization.

Identifying Substance Abuse Among TANF Clients in Cass County, ND

Record Description

Professionals from Cass County solicited specific technical assistance from the Welfare Peer Technical Assistance Network in response to this developing problem of drug screening. Their technical assistance request broadly covered substance abuse screening in general, but also included specific aspects of methamphetamine use and identification among TANF clients. The TA request from North Dakota touched on multiple aspects of substance abuse. The technical assistance request from North Dakota solicited help in addressing substance abuse among TANF families and devising strategies to assist substance abusing families find and maintain employment.

Substance Abuse - Challenges and Strategic Solutions

Record Description

The Welfare Peer TA Network sponsored this statewide Roundtable event that took place in Fargo, ND from September 27-29, 2004. Attended by over 40 individuals, this Roundtable brought together regional teams from each of the 8 service regions in North Dakota to address issues of substance abuse screening and identification as well as service integration. The impetus for this Technical Assistance Request built on previous Welfare Peer TA work completed in Fargo, ND with a specific focus on a pilot project in Cass County.

Work Experience Teleconference

Record Description

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), in collaboration with the Welfare Peer Technical Assistance (TA) Network hosted, a teleconference to discuss strategies, lessons learned, and ideas to develop successful work experience (WEX) sites. The teleconference was a response to several frontier State inquiries regarding the development of WEX sites in both tribal and non-tribal rural areas. Participating Sates included Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. Federal ACF and Welfare Peer TA contract staff also participated in the call.
