Webinar: Bridging Access to COVID-19 Information Among Adult Learners
Over the past few weeks, our society has undergone major changes to try to slow the spread of COVID-19. Accurate, accessible health information is essential to help people stay safe and healthy, understand federal safety guidelines, and prevent unnecessary fear. The American Institutes for Research (AIR) has created a plain-language FAQ that addresses a variety of topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The document was developed as a resource for schools, day cares, healthcare organizations, and other public centers to distribute. It is designed to make this information accessible and comprehensible to everyone, regardless of education level or background.
The Coalition on Adult Basic Education will host a webinar on April 16, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. ET to cover this document. Discussion includes a review of the FAQs to provide an overview of accurate, medically sound information. Additionally, presenters will share strategies and resources for providing information to adult learners with low literacy or limited English proficiency. There will also be an opportunity for Q&A among webinar participants. Presenters include Dr. Erica Shelton, an AIR researcher and emergency medicine physician in Baltimore, Maryland and Dr. Trenita Childers, an AIR health researcher specializing in equity and community engagement.
