Tied to the Business Cycle: How Immigrants Fare in Good and Bad Economic Times

The Migration Policy Institute authored this report on how immigrants are faring in relation to the economy. Immigrants have historically fared well in the United States; however, the recent economic recession has been especially detrimental for the immigrant population. Immigrants have faced higher levels of unemployment in recent years than native-born individuals. Given that immigrants’ economic positions are tied to the labor market and business cycle, authors review why this is the case and the cyclical nature of immigrants in the labor market.
