Review of Family Financial Decision Making: Suggestions for Future Research and Implications for Financial Education

This article calls on financial counselors to recognize the role that family relationships play in money management. While financial education is often delivered to individuals, their spending decisions are usually influenced by spouses and family members. It investigates how marital status, gender roles, and the presence of children in the household influence financial decision making. The article concludes by offering suggestions on how to change family financial decision processes through counseling on communication and reflection on values.
