Research-To-Practice Brief

Redesigning Training Programs for the COVID-19 Era and Beyond

This research-to-practice brief examines how training providers are adapting in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and how they can redesign training programs to better serve populations with the most barriers to employment. The brief is informed by interviews with community colleges and community-based organizations, and interaction with workforce boards and training providers. The brief identifies two overarching principles — keeping equity at the forefront and remaining flexible and open to change — to inform program design considerations. These design considerations include thinking critically about using technology, expanding options for reemployment, adopting flexible program models, supporting program staff, and embracing partnerships.
