Principles to Support Black Workers in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

Since the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is set to be reauthorized and new workforce investments are proposed under the Build Back Better plan, there is renewed opportunity to advance equity in the workforce. This issue brief highlights five principles for state and local leaders to consider in their work to advance WIOA’s goals while supporting Black job seekers and more fairly distributing economic opportunity. The principles were developed based on a July 2021 roundtable discussion with national and local workforce experts.
