HHS Announces Historic Child Welfare Package to Expand Support and Equity in Child Welfare System

On September 27, 2023 the Biden-Harris administration, through the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), released three new rules that will have a profound impact on child welfare in America. This ACF press release summarizes the three rules that will support kinship caregivers, protect LGBTQI+ children in foster care, and expand access to legal representation for children and families in the child welfare system. The rules are designed to help child welfare agencies fulfill their mission of putting children first as well as align with the Biden-Harris administration’s priorities to keep families together and increase equity in the child welfare system.
