Research-To-Practice Brief

Demographic and Economic Characteristics of Immigrant and Native-Born Populations in Rural and Urban Places

This brief from the University of New Hampshire’s Carsey School of Public Policy uses the American Community Survey five-year estimates to document characteristics of the immigrant and native-born populations in the U.S. by metropolitan status. The analysis finds that rural immigrants are different than their rural native-born and urban immigrant counterparts on several different demographic and economic measures.
