Child Care: Multiple Factors Could Have Contributed to the Recent Decline in the Number of Children Whose Families Receive Subsidies

The Government Accountability Office authored this report on the factors that have contributed to a decline in the number of families who receive child care subsidies. From 2006 to 2008, the number of children served through the Child Care and Development Fund decreased by 10 percent. The GAO finds that the decline in subsidy use is due to state resources as well as eligible families not seeking the subsidy.
