Addressing the Mental Health Needs of Young Immigrants

The Annie E. Casey Foundation hosted six webinars as part of its series focused on youth mental health. The series seeks to respond to questions and insights raised by attendees at the Foundation’s Youth Mental Health Summit hosted with the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General in April 2023. This ses­sion spot­lighted a com­mu­ni­ty-led, non-clin­i­cal approach to sup­port­ing mental health in Lati­no communities in Montgomery County, Maryland. The model presented involves train­ing com­mu­ni­ty mem­bers to lead peer-based emo­tion­al sup­port groups and cre­ating safe spaces for par­tic­i­pants to talk through emo­tion­al health chal­lenges and strategies.
