2021 National TANF Directors’ Meeting Session: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP): How TANF Can Play a Role in Prevention

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Family Assistance (OFA) conducted the 2021 National TANF Directors’ Meeting from September 20 - 24, 2021. During this concurrent workshop, a diverse panel of speakers introduced the ACF Framework on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons, provided a lived testimonial, and highlighted how Tribal TANF programs can partner with local justice and advocacy organizations to support survivors while shining a light on prevention efforts. Presentations highlighted the role TANF can play in preventing occurrences of MMIP through factors including trauma-informed case management, establishing strong community partnerships, and building up a person’s support networks.
