2021 National TANF Directors’ Meeting Session: Advancing Equity in TANF for Rural, Racial, and Ethnic Populations

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Family Assistance (OFA) conducted the 2021 National TANF Directors’ Meeting from September 20 - 24, 2021. The President’s Executive Order on Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government recognizes that certain populations have not always been served equitably by our public programs and calls for the federal government to systematically “assess whether, and to what extent, its programs and policies perpetuate systemic barriers to opportunities and benefits for people of color and other underserved groups.” This concurrent workshop featured two research projects from the Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation (OPRE) that seek to better understand how well TANF has served underserved groups, specifically, people of color and rural populations.
