Supporting Program Progress: Performance Measures, Data System, and Technical Assistance for the 2020 Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood Grantees

Record Description
This Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation report reviews data collection and performance measurement improvements that will be used to evaluate the next cohort of Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood (HMRF) grantees in late 2020. The review examines three key areas: what changes to the HMRF performance measures would improve the usefulness, quality, and clarity of data collected; what enhancements to Information, Family Outcomes, Reporting, and Management (nFORM) (the data collection system through which grantees submit data) would increase data quality and improve user experience and data access; and what training and technical assistance activities would help grantees when using nFORM. The review is drawn from lessons learned from the 2015 cohort of HMRF grantees.

Inside, Outside, Round and Round: Sustaining Engagement in Responsible Fatherhood Programs

Record Description
Fathers faced with child care responsibilities while trying to work or look for work find it challenging to participate in Responsible Fatherhood programs. This Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation report features the Building Bridges and Bonds (B3) study, which strives to help sustain program engagement by examining factors inside and outside programs, as well as considerations regarding learning over time. The report overviews study results on these three factors (for example, creating a positive and comfortable environment, addressing barriers to accessing services, or considering participant perspectives) in the form of a tip sheet which programs can consider when trying to encourage father engagement.

Applying Cognitive-Behavioral Techniques to Employment Programming for Fathers: Findings from the B3 Study

Record Description
This Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation-funded report evaluates the effectiveness of the Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Justice Involved Individuals Seeking Employment (CBI-Emp) curriculum to address economic stability under the Building Bridges and Bonds (B3) study. Economic stability is one of the three approaches within the Responsible Fatherhood (RF) grant program. A process study assessed how three RF program grantees implemented CBI-Emp, which assists individuals with recent justice involvement in identifying and changing thinking patterns and actions that prevent positive outcomes. Under the study, participating fathers were randomly selected and offered either their respective organization’s services or CBI-Emp with the range of services offered by their organization; these interventions’ costs and impacts were evaluated.
