The interaction between child support and TANF is vital for the success of not only each program, but also, and more importantly, each client’s success. As a result, Welfare Peer TA sponsored a Focus Group in Anaheim, California called “TANF/Child Support Enforcement Collaboration.” The Focus Group emphasized the need for collaboration between the child support enforcement and TANF agencies, and the need for solutions to identify gaps in services for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) participants.

The National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare (NCSACW) is sponsored through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and Administration for Children and Families. NCSACW works with States and Tribes to improve their service delivery for expanding cross-systems collaboration in an effort to improve outcomes for children and families in their states. TANF agencies can learn a framework, tools, and strategies for increasing cross-systems collaboration.

This report is from the Child Welfare Information Gateway, funded through the Children’s Bureau at the Administration for Children and Families, and provides information on the placement of children with relatives in the child welfare system. Information on kinship care is crucial to TANF stakeholders in supporting the child-only caseload in their States.

From the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this report provides data on the importance of father involvement within the lives of children. Researchers analyze case outcomes for children within the child welfare system in relation to nonresident fatherhood involvement.

This study was conducted under contract to the Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. First commissioned in the wake of welfare reform in 1996, this study examined how States and communities implemented programs to meet the child care needs of families moving from welfare to work. Specifically, this report offers information from the In-Depth Study of Family Child Care, one of three components of the National Study of Child Care for Low-Income Families.

This Web site offers teleconferences on various topics. On May 31st, 2007 they offered a teleconference titled "Building and Maintaining State-Tribal Partnerships to Improve Child Welfare Programs". During the teleconference, representatives from two States discussed their relationships with Tribes and how to maintain a productive partnership. The representatives discussed challenges and successes in that they had experienced while cultivating these relationships.

This study was conducted through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation. Researchers looked at how States are implementing programs to meet the child care needs of families moving from welfare to work, and provide an overview of what types of child care options low-income families use.

Funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation, this study investigated a group of families over a two and a half year period on their child care use to understand how child care options help to support parents’ employment as well as meet children’s needs for a safe, healthy and nurturing environment. Information was also gathered on 17 States on administering child care and welfare programs after the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996.

This resource guide was designed to support child welfare workers, supervisors, administrators, and other professionals that work with American Indian families. From the Rocky Mountain Quality Improvement Center, this guide offers strategies for best practices in serving these families with both child protection and substance abuse concerns.

LexLinc Kentucky requested the assistance of the Welfare Peer TA Network to plan and conduct a 2-day statewide Roundtable on the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)/Child Tax Credit (CTC) and strategies to help eligible current and former TANF participants and low-income families apply for the credits. The principal goal of the Roundtable was to build and enhance partnerships statewide between social services providers, Kentucky’s TANF Agency, business leaders, and community and faith-based organizations, with an aim toward helping low wage earning families achieve financial self-sufficiency through the Earned Income Tax Credit.
