What Are the Important Differences Among Kinship Foster Families?

Work Opportunity Tax Credit

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a Federal tax credit incentive that the Congress provides to private-sector businesses for hiring individuals from twelve target groups who have consistently faced significant barriers to employment. The main objective of this program is to enable the targeted employees to gradually move from economic dependency into self-sufficiency as they earn a steady income and become contributing taxpayers, while the participating employers are compensated by being able to reduce their federal income tax liability.

The Suburbanization of Poverty

Record Description

The Brookings Institution authored this report on new statistics that show suburban areas have the fastest growing poor population in the country. Specifically, between 2000 and 2008, suburbs’ poor populations grew by 25 percent, which equates to five times faster than primary urban areas. In 2008, suburbs were home to 1.5 million more poor than their primary cities and housed almost one-third of the nation’s poor overall.

Employment Needs of Foster Youth in Illinois: Findings from the Midwest Study

Family Mobility and Neighborhood Change: New Evidence and Implications for Community Initiatives
