What Promotes Family Engagement in Home Visiting? A Summary from the HV-REACH Project
Family engagement can be challenging at every stage of home visiting from initial outreach and enrollment to continued participation. This brief from the Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation identifies seven evidence-informed factors that can help home visiting programs engage families and offers examples of practices for addressing barriers both within and outside the program. Developed for home visiting administrators and staff, the resource can also inform Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) teams working to connect families with voluntary supports. TANF practitioners can use its findings to review how they introduce services, build trusting relationships, accommodate family circumstances, and support ongoing participation—particularly when families are eligible for assistance but are not enrolling or staying engaged.
