Poverty and Hardship Affect Tens of Millions of Americans

This fact sheet from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities provides an overview of poverty in the United States. Currently, 36.5 million Americans, which is one in eight, live in poverty. Additionally, 15.4 million live in extreme poverty, which equates to income that is at less than half of the poverty threshold.
