Depression, Substance Abuse, and Domestic Violence: Little is Known About Co-Occurrence and Combined Effects on Low-Income Families

Depression, substance abuse, and domestic violence can pose significant barriers to work for low-income women on TANF. There is a lack of research on the co-occurrence of these barriers and the effects that they can have on children. From the National Center for Children in Poverty, this report outlines research on these barriers and gives guidance for future policies to reduce the effects on families.
