This report assesses how place-based employment programs can help families navigate support systems, address needs during the pandemic, and help participants reengage with work when the labor market reopens. The report highlights Jobs Plus, an employment program that has been implemented in 35 public housing developments across the country, and includes on-site employment-related services, rent-based work incentives, and a community context supporting work.

Low-income young workers in service-sector jobs have felt first-hand the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic. This report explores how 10 states participating in the New Skills for Youth Initiative addressed designing and implementing pathways for high school students. It reflects findings from interviews with educators, business leaders, student advisors, community partners, and other key stakeholders which took place from June 2017 to June 2020.

This brief illustrates a case study of the Navigator, an online work-based learning platform adopted in North Carolina that offers participants opportunities to learn about different industry sectors and occupations under a continuum of experiences that cover career awareness and career training. Through The Navigator, employers post work-based learning opportunities that counselors, educators, and job coaches can search to find opportunities for their students. The Navigator was developed as part of the National Governors Association’s Policy Academy for Scaling Work-Based Learning.

This blogpost highlights discussions with representatives of 13 schools, districts, and program intermediaries that provide work-based learning opportunities. Representatives discuss the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on onsite opportunities, such as apprenticeships, internships, career mentoring, and job shadowing. Opportunities and adaptions for virtual workplace learning created as a result of the pandemic and the potential for long-term benefits to participants are also discussed.

This brief covers the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on adult employment and incomes among those that have encountered economic hardship and have been able to access unemployment benefits. The brief identifies the disproportionate losses by income and race and the time lag between filing for and receiving unemployment insurance benefits. The effects were measured by reviewing findings of the Coronavirus Tracing Survey, a nationally representative survey of nonelderly adults, which was conducted in May 2020.

This tool relies on state-provided or other public data to support early childhood stakeholders in calculating the funds needed to increase early childhood workforce qualifications. The calculator enables the user to set the program type (for example, Head Start, Pre-K, or other center-based programs), child age group (infant-toddler and/or pre-K), and teacher category (lead and/or assistant teacher).
