The Institute for Research on Poverty at the University of Wisconsin will host a virtual seminar on October 15, 2020 from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. CT. The seminar will discuss metrics, covering financial well-being, secure and stable housing, family stability, health, supportive communities, education, and work, that embody the comprehensive definition of economic and social mobility developed by the U.S. Partnership on Mobility from Poverty. Urban Institute’s Greg Acs will lead the seminar’s discussion.

Prosperity Now has opened registration for its first-ever virtual summit to be held on September 30, 2020 to October 2, 2020. The summit will allow participants to undertake deep dive learning labs; attend sessions on affordable housing, tax preparation for low-income individuals, food insecurity, health and financial well-being, and asset building for equity; and engage in virtual networking sessions and online exhibit halls. Participants will also have six months of online access to all sessions after attendance and are eligible for certificates of completion.

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention within the U.S. Department of Justice will host a webinar on July 30, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET which will focus on serving adolescents in family drug courts. Emphasis will be on encouraging youth to engage in building positive relationships with adults and peers and to be actively involved in developing their own voice as they transition into adulthood. Strategies for substance use prevention and treatment and information on recovery support will also be addressed.

In this webinar scheduled for July 22, 2020 from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. ET, a panel of health experts will discuss improving care for mothers and babies through the formation of state or multistate collaborative initiatives, hospital-based quality improvement efforts which support optimal infant nutrition, and the formation of strategic alliances with the private health sector to strengthen the quality of neonatal and child health services.

This CLASP webinar on May 20, 2020 focused on learning from lived experiences of young parents of color and their perspective on mental health. The two presentations by Dr. Nia West-Bey and Clelie Choute were comprised of qualitative reports based on conversations with young parents about the role of intergenerational trauma in shaping families’ relationships to mental health. They identified unique forms of trauma and chronic stress to which young parents are susceptible, such as infant mortality, environmental stress, deferring dreams, and stress linked to policy and program barriers.

The National Association of Case Management held a webinar on May 13, 2020, during which participants learned about the symptoms of Caregiver Fatigue, how to recognize Caregiver Fatigue prior to the symptoms becoming problematic, and ways to identify techniques to reduce symptoms of Caregiver Fatigue. The webinar was led by Bridget Thompson, a Certified Health Coach and a Housing Coordinator at Region V Systems, where she manages programs specializing in housing individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, and mental health and substance abuse issues.

Accurate, accessible health information is essential to help people stay safe and healthy, understand federal safety guidelines, and prevent unnecessary fear. The American Institutes for Research (AIR) has created a plain-language FAQ that addresses a variety of topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The document was developed as a resource for schools, day cares, healthcare organizations, and other public centers to distribute.

The Institute for Research on Poverty at the University of Wisconsin at Madison will host a webinar on February 19, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. CT to discuss ways that a father’s health and behaviors impact their children’s well-being. Researchers will present findings about fathers’ experiences in prenatal and pediatric care settings and strategies for promoting fathers’ physical and mental health; also presented will be findings on how to support fathers in modeling positive health behaviors for their children.
