The Urban Institute has launched a new research initiative, WorkRise, which aims to build a more equitable and inclusive labor market that improves economic outcomes for low-income workers. As part of an online WorkRise forum on October 14, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET, panelists will discuss challenges these workers face in searching for a job, leveraging skill building, and other topics related to securing employment.

Prosperity Now has opened registration for its first-ever virtual summit to be held on September 30, 2020 to October 2, 2020. The summit will allow participants to undertake deep dive learning labs; attend sessions on affordable housing, tax preparation for low-income individuals, food insecurity, health and financial well-being, and asset building for equity; and engage in virtual networking sessions and online exhibit halls. Participants will also have six months of online access to all sessions after attendance and are eligible for certificates of completion.

The U.S. Department of Labor hosted a webinar on September 24, 2020 which discussed how to use the online resource CareerOneStop for career exploration and job services. Materials now available include a PowerPoint presentation and user guides for CareerOneStop to support virtual delivery of employment services. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development delivered presentations.

This webinar described an evaluation, Keeping Youth Out of the Deep End of the Juvenile Justice System, which pinpointed tactics for engaging families and creating strategies that target equitable outcomes for youth of color. These youth are overrepresented in institutions in the so-called deep end of the juvenile justice system, including youth prisons and residential institutions.
