Behavioral Health Equity
Behavioral health equity is the right to access high-quality and affordable health care services and supports for all populations, including Black, Latino, and Indigenous and Native American persons, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and other persons of color; members of religious minorities; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) persons; persons with disabilities; persons who live in rural areas; and persons otherwise adversely affected by persistent poverty or inequality. Advancing health equity involves addressing social determinants, such as employment and housing stability, insurance status, proximity to services, and culturally responsive care – all of which have an impact on behavioral health outcomes. This Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Office of Behavioral Health Equity webpage covers SAMHSA data, reports, and issue briefs; SAMHSA behavioral health resources; Federal initiatives and resources from other agencies; and external resources that are tailored to diverse populations.
